Family Fun in the Delaware Beaches

The Delaware Beaches offer Exciting Activities for All Ages

The kids’ bags are packed, and you’re all ready for a much-needed vacation. Once your troop arrives in coastal Delaware, drop your bags off at your cottage or hotel, and tote everyone down to the waterpark in Rehoboth Beach or Fenwick Island. The family will surely enjoy a day of slipping and sliding in the water, and you’ll relish an afternoon by the pool.

Fun in the Surf and Sand

The coast of southern Delaware truly has something for everyone. When the sun’s out, it’s the perfect day for the beach. Splash in the waves with your family, play some volleyball or have a picnic. But the best of all is that it’s free!

Summertime welcomes a host of water activities including parasailing, boating adventures, cruises and more. For the active family, there are hundreds of ways to enjoy the bays, inlets and ocean that encircle these beautiful coastal communities. Whether you want to enjoy some leisurely or thrilling time on these blue waters, you’re sure to find an activity the whole family will enjoy.

Activities Beyond the Beach

Take a step back in time for an old-time photo portrait as you dress up in a range of distinctive costumes from your favorite era. Or take a family portrait on the beach by a professional photographer for some unforgettable memories.

Climb aboard a pirate ship for a swashbuckling good time! Dress in pirate attire, and use your map to discover where sunken treasure might be lying. Don’t forget to practice your “Argh” beforehand!

Head to a fun park in Rehoboth where the whole family will enjoy an exciting time racing around in bumper cars, hopping board thrilling rides and mini-golf. Bumper cars and tokens make for a full day’s worth of fun! Get thrilled on some awesome amusement park rides with your family, and laugh together as you make some family-fun memories.

For an exciting edge, race one another in some go-karts! Kids will love driving cars all on their own, and go-karts are a safe way to let them go wild on the track.

Outdoor Fun Away from the Beach

For a break from the beach, head over to Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes, where you and your family can hike, bike and run for miles in this park. The outdoors can’t get much better when you’re taking a pause from your busy schedules to break a sweat and make lasting memories with the family. The kids can even spend a day at one of their many summer camps to participate in a range of indoor and outdoor activities that are creative, recreational and educational.

Pack up the gang and spend an afternoon or evening playing a rousing game of paintball! Everything you’ll need is supplied for you, and you’ll have a blast aiming and firing bright, colorful balls of paint at one another. Play during the day or at night under the lights!

Even More Outdoor Fun

Take a day to head to the boardwalk for an afternoon of biking! If you and the kids forgot the bikes at home, we’ve got you covered. Rent a bike, from the many services offered near the boardwalk, from one hour up to a week depending on the rental company. Once everyone has a bike, you can begin cruising the boardwalk at daybreak until 10 a.m. from May 15 through Sept. 15.

Entertainment for All Ages

Your kids’ music preferences may not be your favorite, and they may think your taste is old-fashioned. Luckily, Delaware’s variety of concerts and festivals are held all year, so you’re sure to find a musical group that both you and the kids can vibe with. Check out who will be performing during your stay and look to our calendar of events for other exciting events and live performances during your stay.

Historical Attractions for the Whole Family

Even kids will enjoy a history lesson at the exciting museums, historic homes and tours in historic Lewes—known as “the first town in the first state.” Located a few miles north of Rehoboth Beach, Lewes is almost 400 years old and contains plenty of history.

The town’s proud heritage has been carefully preserved by the Lewes Historical Society, making the town a great place for a leisurely walking tour. The historic district features charming shops, bed and breakfasts and other accommodations. After exploring, take the family out for seafood at one of the area’s restaurants.

From toddlers to teenagers, parents to grandparents, people of all ages flock to the Delaware Beaches year after year to enjoy the wide variety of activities and attractions. With all these entertaining options, plus miles and miles of beautiful beaches to explore, this scenic coast tops the list of any family seeking the ultimate beach vacation.
